Principal Engineer, Liquid Hydrogen Filling
Universal Hydrogen is on a mission to provide the hydrogen supply chain solution for a carbon-free world. This position provides a unique opportunity to be a part of this revolutionary development and will be the technical lead for our liquid hydrogen filling technology. You will report directly to the VP of Hydrogen Filling Technology and work closely with the engineering team to fast-track our revolutionary innovations. We expect to grow the team significantly over the next few years and are looking for someone who enjoys the challenge and excitement of being a part of a growing team.
About the Role
- Responsible for specifying and developing the concepts and equipment for filling our liquid hydrogen modules.
- Develop the interface from the filling equipment to the hydrogen modules and capsules together with the LH2 team.
- Optimize the liquid hydrogen technology from raw hydrogen to the capsules so it fits with our hydrogen value chain strategy.
- Lead various projects from prototype level to commercialization.
- Work closely with partners in the industry as we aim for a high degree of equipment.
- Experience with cryogenic gas e.g. from filling to liquefaction.
- Strong engineering skills across thermodynamics, and process engineering.
- Experience in the industrial gas industry or similar.
- Ability to keep a holistic view across the technology and identify and work with strategic partners.
- Proven track record of conceptualizing technology for scalability.
At Universal Hydrogen, our mission is to fuel carbon-free flight and reduce the climate impact of air travel. We are stitching together the end-to-end hydrogen value chain for aviation, both for hydrogen fuel and hydrogen-powered airplanes. We are building a transport and logistics network that moves hydrogen from production facilities to airports over the existing freight infrastructure, eliminating the need for costly new pipelines and storage facilities. Our system utilizes specialized capsules that safely store hydrogen during transit and act as modular fuel tanks that load directly onto aircraft. We are also developing powertrain conversion kits to retrofit existing airplanes and enable new airplanes to fly on hydrogen. Founded by former executives from Airbus, United Technologies, Google, and DARPA, and backed by investors such as Playground Global, Tencent, Toyota, GE, JetBlue, and Airbus, we are convinced that hydrogen is the best and only scalable solution to truly decarbonize aviation, and we want to bring it to market decades sooner—by 2025.
