Joby Overview

Located in Northern California, the Joby Aviation team is steadily working toward our goal of creating an affordable, all-electric air transportation system. Imagine an air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly and quickly carries you over the traffic congestion below, giving you back the time that otherwise would have spent sitting in traffic. Since 2009, our team has been making this dream a reality, designing and flight testing a prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration and preparing for commercialization with launch targeted in select markets for 2024.

Overview

You will drive the implementation of the high voltage battery charger for Joby’s pioneering eVTOL aircraft. Playing a key role in a small, fast-moving team, you will have input to the conceptual design of this safety critical system that involves the integration of various electromechanical components.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, integrate, and maintain real-time embedded software for the Battery Charger for the Joby Aircraft.
  • Interface with cross-functional teams for gathering, understanding, defining, and generating RTOS embedded system requirements to add/update features for the Battery Charger.
  • Create visualizations and tools for analysis of charger data.

Required

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering/related field and 5+ years of experience with C++ and embedded systems programming (advanced degree preferred)
  • Expert knowledge of object-oriented programming methodology and multi-layered system architectures
  • Strong understanding real-time operating systems (knowledge of Linux and SafeRTOS are plus)
  • Familiarity with software development tools such as Git, CMake, TeamCity, and Integrated Development Environments (IDEs)
  • Strong understanding of modern microcontroller and microprocessor architectures such as ARM Cortex-A9 or similar microprocessor families
  • Working knowledge of common lab test equipment (such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, voltmeters, etc.)
  • Strong collaborative drive and interpersonal skills
  • Strong initiative, proactive work ethics, and analytical problem-solving skills

Desired

  • Familiarity with the Scrum process and Jira
  • Familiarity with Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA)
  • Familiarity with Charging and Power Management
  • Familiarity with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Certification process
  • DO-178C, ARP4754/4761, DO-311A compliance
