We are seeking a senior or staff software engineer for our perception and prediction team to develop online lidar and imagery detection classification algorithms for static and dynamic objects in and around the roadway. Our perception and prediction team contributes to our multi-modal sensor capabilities, dynamic range extension, and fused perception and prediction. Ultimately, you will improve our object identification, classification, and tracking for better behavioral and intent prediction.

Through effective collaboration with our engineering disciplines, you will contribute to our efforts to build improved perception and prediction capabilities from design all the way through to production. We are seeking top minds to lead the development of perception capabilities for our autonomous vehicles. The ideal candidate will be a software expert who has overseen a process from the R&D phase through product shipment and has a passion for leading teams and developing real-world solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Create advanced perception systems that accurately perceive an autonomous vehicle and its environment using imaging and 3D sensors.
  • Develop, test, debug, and maintain reliable, safe, production-quality code.
  • Design and implement all key components of the perception system such as object detection, object tracking, and multi-sensor fusion.
  • Create optimized pipelines for data pre-processing, model training, data post-processing, inferencing, etc.
  • Train perception models, evaluate their performance, investigate and fix performance bottlenecks
  • Develop scalable training and evaluation tools and infrastructure.
  • Integrate vision sensors output – including cameras and LIDAR - as model inputs in building algorithms.
  • Create predictive models to track objects of interest over time and feed data to the decision-making model to guide immediate-term behaviors.
  • Collaborate with mapping engineering teams to ensure accurate, relevant map inputs including anomaly detection such as construction site or missing traffic signals.
  • Build better models to estimate more information about an object including classification of the object, speed, and direction

Qualifications

  • Masters’ or Ph.D. degree in CS, Robotics or related field
  • 7+ years of related experience in machine learning for perception and prediction
  • Excellent software design skill with fluency in C++ (14+) and Python
  • Experience and skills in novel deep learning models and machine learning tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Good linear algebra fundamentals, statistics fundamentals
  • Experience in state estimation problems in a team environment
  • Great grasp of linear algebra, probability theory, optimization, and basic geometric algorithms
  • Experience with filtering algorithms (i.e.- Kalman filters, particle filters, etc.)
  • Experience building and shipping software frameworks or tools
  • Experience in software design for safety-critical systems
  • Experience with sensor modalities used in robotics and automated driving applications (Camera/Vision, Radar, LiDAR, INS/IMU)
  • Deep understanding of GPU architecture Experience with CUDA and distributed computing
