Trucks VC portfolio

Apr 26

Gatik is the leader in autonomous middle mile logistics. We deliver goods safely, quickly, and efficiently in our fleet of medium-duty trucks, connecting people and communities to the goods they really need. With every delivery, we're making the supply chain more reliable, keeping costs low, driving sustainability, and making the roads safer for all road users.

At Gatik, we believe in establishing new standards of success for the autonomous trucking industry every day. In 2021, we launched the world's first fully driverless commercial delivery service with Walmart, a historic milestone that's changing the way we view goods movement forever.

Gatik is a place to learn, lead and grow alongside industry veterans who are defining the future of logistics, and we want you to help us shape the next chapter in our journey.

About this role

We are seeking an experienced mechatronics engineer who is able to combine the skills of mechanical design, electronics design, and coding and scripting in order to be part of our prototyping team in Mountain View. As part of the Prototype Team, the successful candidate will design, build, test, and validate components and subsystems for our Autonomous Vehicle Development. You enjoy working hands-on with the hardware and working on the trucks to solve problems and develop solutions and you enjoy taking responsibility and initiative in your work.

We seek team members who are technically excellent, analytically minded, and approach problems systematically to find solutions. If this describes you, and you want to work with energetic and enthusiastic people who get down in the trenches and get things done, please consider this opportunity.

We are looking for top talent that shares our passion and wants to be part of a fast-moving and highly execution-oriented team.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to…

  • As a mechatronics engineer, you bring experience in mechanical design, PCB design, coding, and scripting that you can use to independently create prototype mechanical systems. You can parse system requirements and determine the optimum approach to a Minimum Viable Product solution.
  • You will work with a multidisciplinary team to test and validate concepts on our test bench and in our vehicles. As part of a broader team, you will assist colleagues in creating and automating test fixtures and assist with building and modifying prototypes.
  • You will document your work clearly and thoroughly so that colleagues in other locations are able to replicate your designs and results.
  • As a part of the engineering team, you will participate in design reviews, DFEMA, HARA, and other forms of design review and analysis.

We’re looking for someone who has...

  • A Bachelor’s or higher degree in Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent with 2+ years of professional experience
  • Experience in producing functioning prototypes and products
  • Experience in the automotive, trucking, aerospace, robotics, or automation industry
  • Good design fundamentals based on engineering experience and a background in engineering mathematics and calculations
  • A solid practical understanding of electronics and experience with electrical circuits, designing simple PCBs, prototyping electronics, and programming microcontrollers.
  • Good hands-on skills
  • Good soldering and crimping skills
  • An understanding of network protocols and architectures, particularly Ethernet and CAN-bus.
  • A good practical understanding of FMEAs and Risk Assessments and designing to existing standards
  • Able to create industry-standard CAD drawings for mechanical assemblies and package files for the manufacturing of PCBAs.

It’s preferred if you have…

  • Skills in dynamic FEA for CAE
  • Experience with sensor technology such as camera, lidar, and radar
  • Coding in Python and/or C++
  • Experience with optical systems
  • Experience with electromechanical systems and mechatronics
