Aeye, Inc. is looking for an experienced Lidar system and component reliability engineer. The reliability engineer will be responsible for the calculation of reliability targets, modeling and definition of the reliability tests required to qualify the product for existing and new product launches and will be a key member in design reviews to provide guidance to our design team, suppliers and CEMs.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Review proposed designs to ensure they will comply with Automotive product standards. Work closely with SW / HW during new product development process
  • DFMEA analysis completed, and controls implemented to ensure products are designed with a focus on safety and reliability
  • Knowledgeable in applying WCCA, MTBF, HASS, HTOL and HALT and other reliability assessment methods to electronic components and assemblies.
  • Interface with Design and operation team to ensure products are designed to meet country specific safety standards
  • Provide hands-on support working with off-site test agencies to obtain regulatory approval.
  • Familiar with testing products for EMC, ESD etc.. compliance
  • Other Regulatory/Compliance documentation or activities as needed
  • Define reliability targets based on stakeholder requirements, esp. warranty targets.
  • Calculate and model system, sub system and component level reliability using state of the art tools and standards.
  • Develop accelerated test methods e.g., HALT to explore failure modes and propose improvements to increase reliability.
  • Coordinate/conduct tests related to reliability and environmental qualification of the Lidar system and key components.
  • Create Fault Trees and reliability diagrams to assess system reliability.
  • Use statistical analysis to design the required testing and to evaluate the result.
  • Define test and validation strategies to confirm targeted reliability levels achieved.
  • Study and recommend applicable reliability test methods and standards when available.
  • Provide design recommendations to improve product reliability.
  • Participate in product design reviews to ensure all key reliability metrics are met.
  • Lead Ongoing Reliability Monitoring (ORT) activities
  • Reviews Engineering Change Requests for their impact on Quality and Reliability
  • Provide guidance to internal team and interface with suppliers and contract manufacturers regarding reliability testing requirements and analysis.
  • Occasionally support test equipment design efforts and occasionally manage build of test equipment for new Lidar component reliability tests.
  • Analyze test reports and present results with recommendations to management.
  • Support, and when needed initiate, root cause analysis e.g., 8D process for component test failures.
  • Provide design team with proposal for component environmental test solutions.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • BSEE in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in electronics, optoelectronics automotive reliability or product test /validation role.
  • 5+ years of directly related experience in a regulated industry.
  • Intimate familiarity with various Regulatory / Compliance for Automotive products.
  • Experience performing DFMEA on complex Automotive product
  • Experience with laser devices a plus
  • Experience in automotive environmental test specifications and standards e.g. GMW 3172, LV124, and component qualification standards e.g. AEC-Q100 etc.
  • Demonstrated experience from electronics components reliability analysis, testing and implementation of related action plans is required.
  • Knowledge of reliability warranty analysis and reliability prediction methods
  • Knowledge of applied statistics and experience with statistical software such as JMP
  • Experience in statistical analysis and related tools required e.g., ReliaSoft Synthesis Platform, including Weibull++, BlockSim, ALTA, RGA, and xFMEA.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated proficiency with stress testing of automotive optoelectronics systems and components.
  • Experience with test data collection and analysis preferred.
  • Material science background is a plus
  • Experience with semiconductor process is a plus
  • Experience applying DOE, DFMEA, and PFMEA to drive test planning.
  • Experience with MS project, Test Stand, some Python scripting preferred.
  • Experience with environmental testing of electronic sub-assemblies e.g., ASIC’s or SOCs preferred.
  • Ability to travel to supplier sites for monitoring of tests or to discuss component reliability issues.
  • Strong attention to detail
