The role of Manufacturing Engineer requires the development of ambitious plans for process improvement, breaking them into tangible goals and executing on agreed-upon timelines. The role is part process design, part project management, and part hands-on implementation. 

Within the first year of work, you’ll take on many of the following responsibilities:

  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes with a focus on in-line product testing. This will include interfacing with our engineering team to understand process requirements, writing process documentation, planning and executing qualification plans, overseeing the deployment and participating in continuous improvement efforts.
  • Analyze production data to identify and mitigate issues. These responsibilities will take a data-science approach from merging multiple data sources (databases, spreadsheets, etc.) to draw conclusions from data you and others have collected.
  • Design, source, and assemble assembly aids and mechanical test fixtures to support production line improvements. 
  • Designing, analyzing, and improving material flow strategies to improve overall factory efficiency.
  • Working with suppliers to improve their manufacturing strategies and product quality or to reduce costs

A well-qualified candidate will likely have a combination of these skills & experiences: 

  • Education in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, experimental physics, mechatronics or related discipline
  • Ability to organize and present technical information effectively
  • Hands-on experience in an engineering role related to volume production 
  • A command of computer programming principles with non-trivial experience in Python, Matlab, and/or LabVIEW
  • Knowledge of pneumatic instrumentation and hardware such as control valves and flowmeters
  • Mechanical aptitude and electronics know-how. 
  • CAD capabilities with use in a version-controlled engineering environment
  • Ability to interpret, create and review technical drawings and schematics
  • Ability to present communicate technically and present data in a concise, clear manner to an audience of a broad background

An ideal qualified candidate will likely have experience related to:

  • Design for manufacturing of injection molded plastics and/or stamped/machined metals
  • Statistics and Statistical Process Control
  • Design, administration of, and advanced querying of databases 
  • Design of industrial control panels and automated test/assembly equipment  
  • Working with outside vendors for scaling of processes from prototype to full automation

Details

  • On-Site work. Hands-on time at the factory and interacting with product and equipment is important, likely 1-3 days/week.
  • Primary Location (80% on-site time): San Leandro, CA (Operations/Manufacturing Location)
  • Secondary Location (20% on-site time): Burlingame, CA (Business/Engineering Office
  • Work from home. To minimize risk of COVID-19 exposure and allow for more employee flexibility, work from home will be a part of this role.
