Flight Research Stress Engineer
Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate airframe stress engineer to join our flight research engineering team. This role will work across teams, such as airframe design, mechanical subsystems, and powertrain, to analyze primary and secondary structure of prototype airframes. The candidate should be a self-starter with strong communication skills and possess a deep understanding of aircraft stress analysis, stress methodologies, finite element modeling, and external and internal loads.
Responsibilities
- Perform airframe analysis on prototype aircraft structures
- Develop analysis methodologies and tools
- Produce and maintain Component and Integrated FEMs
- Finite Element Model development/refinement, validation and correlation
- Process External Loads to generate internal loads
Required
- B.S. in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or another relevant discipline
- 5+ years of working experience in relevant industry
- In-depth understanding of loading scenarios, free body diagrams, and structural
- behavior of aircraft components
- Experience with solid laminate, sandwich panel, fastened, and bonded structure
- Experience performing analysis on aircraft primary structure
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Highly proactive attitude with the ability to manage multiple assignments
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced dynamic environment
Desired
- 10+ years of working experience in relevant industry
- Expert knowledge of Femap/Nastran
- Strong understanding of composite laminate theory
- Advanced proficiency in finite element analysis, including nonlinear static and dynamic
- analysis of composite or metallic structures
- Knowledge of materials and processing, including design allowables development
- Hands on experience working within aircraft certification program
- Experience with Dassault Systems CAD
This position must meet US export control compliance requirements, therefore a candidate must qualify as a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15. “US Person” includes US Citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees.
Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $133,500 - $178,000/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
